Banco Internacional de Desarrollo C.A. (Banco Universal), BID, is an independent subsidiary of Export Development Bank of Iran (Banco Toseye Saderat Iran). The bank shares its name with the name of the shareholder. The letter "D", comes from the word “Development”, which we share with our shareholder, not only in the name but also as a principal objective of the bank. The logo follows the corporate image of EDBI, which has been processed by SAPI under number 2007-12629.

BID began the process of obtaining banking licenses from the year 2006, and all the legal measures have been taken in accordance with the Venezuelan law. The promotion license of BID was registered in mercantile registration under reference Volume 1644A Number 24 before Mercantile Office V of Capital district of Miranda state.

The operation license was finally obtained on September 17, 2007 after taking all legal steps under Venezuelan law and Regulation (Banking Law articles 7 and 10).The licenses and articles of association of BID were published in Official Gazette for public information.

The banking operation of Banco Internacional De Desarrollo C.A. (BID) started on January 2, 2008. All our financial statements have been published in newspapers of national circulation; Our Bank has been registered before several Venezuelan authorities such as BCV, CICPC, and CNB.

The objective of the bank is to provide banking services to public as a bank under universal license according to the rules and regulations of the Venezuelan Banking System. The President of the Bank was Dr. Tahmasb Mazaheri, who was the General Manager of the Export Development Bank of Iran (EDBI) and has been replaced by Dr Kourosh Parvizian. Accordingly, the general assembly act of BID has already been sent to SUDEBAN for initial approval.

There was an interview with GLOBOVISION on 23.10.2008 by superintendent of Banks and other financial institutions (SUDEBAN) as follows which assures the innocence of BID against all baseless accusations as before.

SUDEBAN: in the reviews there is no evidence  that the Banco Internacional de Desarrollo of Venezuela collaborates with nuclear activities in Iran.

Maria Elena Fumero, the Superintendence of banks and other financial institutions,  indicated that she is aware of the sanctions imposed by the American Treasury Department against the Banco Internacional de Desarrollo of Venezuela for supposedly collaboration with nuclear activities in Iran, but based on  SUDEBAN auditings  of the aforesaid  organization, she said  “there is not any evidence of those facts”.
